Why it matters
The Mothers of the Believers have a central place in Muslim religious memory. Umm Salama, Umm Habiba and Hafsa are remembered for their relationship with the Prophet ﷺ and their roles in the early community. Their biographies deserve individual treatment rather than being reduced to a list of names attached to local monuments.
Historical context
Damascene maqam traditions associated with these names are not established Syrian burial sites. A commemorative association should not override the biographical traditions locating their deaths and burials elsewhere. The purpose of this entry is to prevent that confusion while explaining why communities commemorate the Prophet’s household.

Do not plan a tour advertised as visiting their confirmed graves in Damascus. If a local memorial is identified and accessible, describe precisely what is there and how its attribution arose. Visitors can learn about the women’s lives without being given an unsupported claim about where they rest.
