Homs
Het uitgebreide artikel is beschikbaar in het Arabisch en Engels
Why it matters
Abu Umama al-Bahili was a Companion and a transmitter of the Prophet’s teachings. His association with Homs helps explain how Syria became a place of religious learning as well as political change. Remembering hadith transmitters gives a journey a different emphasis from an itinerary devoted only to rulers and battles.
Historical context
The significance of his life is independent of whether a particular modern enclosure can be securely identified as his grave. Local references to a maqam need to be checked against historical accounts and the physical site. The existing attribution does not by itself establish the age of the building or the survival of its contents.
Your visit
Introduce his role in the transmission of knowledge as part of an Islamic history visit to Homs. A separate maqam stop should be included only after its precise location and present condition have been confirmed. Do not substitute a photograph of Khalid’s mosque and label it as Abu Umama’s shrine.
Traditioneel toegeschreven graf
Wat de toeschrijving betekent
Traditioneel toegeschreven graf. Een maqam bewijst op zichzelf geen graf. Elke kaart maakt daarom onderscheid tussen documentatie en levende traditie.
